My name is Timothy Augustin and I am currently studying at Malmö Opera in Sweden.
I bring significant experience and expertise from both a performance and production perspective, with over 30 years of active involvement in the field of music. Singing as a tenor with the Malmö Opera for the last year, my appreciation of Sweden’s cultural richness and notable contributions to the musical arts has been heightened.
My Scholarship will be used to develop and produce a unique concert program dedicated to the fostering of Swedish operatic performance styles and artists, concluding with a free concert in the Washington DC area. I will provide an integrated compilation of music historically performed by legendary Swedish tenors (e.g., Jussi Björling, Nicolai Gedda, Gösta Winbergh, etc.) and classic Swedish Art Songs. Once developed, this material will be available for continued use by me and for other programs or performers to further promote the history, language, culture and traditions of Sweden. I will engage Washington, D.C., area artists, collaborate with Swedish institutions in the Washington DC area, and hopefully work in collaborations with the Embassy of Sweden to accommodate this concert. My Scholarship will be used to cover costs in developing and producing this concert.
My name is Nicole Fitchett and I am currently enrolled as an MBA Candidate at George Washington University, specializing in international business with a Certificate in Global Management.
I grew up in Northern Virginia, but prior to moving to DC in 2016 I was an au pair in Malmö, Sweden. While there, I learned basic Swedish at Folkuniversitetet i Lund and have continued enrollment in their distance-learning Swedish courses from my new home in DC. This summer, through my MBA program at GW, I have the opportunity to participate in a course called Sweden Global Business Project: The Innovation Ecosystem and the Internationalization of High-Tech Firms in Stockholm, for which I am pursuing this SWEA grant. My goal is studying with the Sweden Global Business Project: The Innovation Ecosystem and the Internationalization of High-Tech Firms in Stockholm through George Washington University.
I aim to learn about Swedish business culture and the Swedish start-up ecosystem so that I can expand my international business knowledge to specialize in Sweden. Second, through the consulting arm of the course, I aim to help a Swedish start-up business enter and spread awareness to the US market. I will help the Swedish client identify strategic opportunities for starting or continuing their expansion into the US market, and develop an actionable plan for execution. Through this Swedish start-up consulting project, I hope to promote and strengthen the relationship between Swedish and US start-up businesses through the consulting project itself. I will use the SWEA scholarship for George Washington University’s tuition cost of the course.
